Late in July 2026, a software update on the Yampa River Guides website reset a permissions setting for downloading from the website. As a result, if you tried to download a guide, you instead got a message stating that you didn’t have permission!
I think I discovered the problem about two weeks after it began, and I then got it sorted out and fixed within a couple of hours. As the Yampa was just flowing at a trickle at the time, likely there were very few attempts to download guides during those two weeks, but I’m sure it was very frustrating for those few who did try.
So, I’m very sorry for that inconvenience, but it also got me thinking about how to empower website visitors to communicate such issues directly to me for a faster resolution. The solution I came up with was to create this Comments page, and the new E-mail page. If a problem with the website arises again in the future, please make a comment or send me an E-mail — either way I’ll be notified of the problem promptly.
I’m hopeful that those so inspired might also take the opportunity to use the Comments page to offer me personal feedback on the river guides. I’ve created them in the hopes that they might contribute to your appreciation and enjoyment of floating the Yampa River, and any suggestions for their improvement will be appreciated! They are the product of a large investment of my time and energies (and some software and website expenses, too), but in return I still haven’t learned much about how folks are actually making use of them.
