The Little Yampa Canyon reach begins at the Yampa River State Park South Beach boat ramp, downstream of the City of Craig, and follows the Yampa River 32 miles through winding canyons before exiting into the Axial Basin at the Duffy Mountain boat ramp. The Little Yampa Canyon is covered by five maps.

The Little Yampa Canyon is a popular flatwater trip, friendly to family groups. It is typically floated over two days, with an overnight camp along the way. Most of the way you are traveling through the Bureau of Land Management’s Little Yampa Canyon Special Recreation Management Area. There are also several established first-come-first-served campsites with picnic tables and fire grates, managed by the Yampa River State Park.

Please practice good river behavior when camping in the Little Yampa Canyon. The use of some type of portable toilet system is essential. Cutting wood for your campfire is poor behavior, whether it is already down and dead or still alive on the tree. Collecting driftwood is also strongly discouraged. Bring your own firewood and leave the trees and driftwood to fulfill their natural roles in the local food chain. The birds and fishes will thank you.

How to Print Your Guides

Print It On Legal Paper

Ideally, your Yampa River Guide should be printed on legal-size paper, using a duplex (prints to both sides) printer. Whether you can print on both sides of the paper or not, be sure to select the “Actual Size” option in the print wizard (this keeps the printer software from adding an extra margin to the printed page).

Duplexed pages will lay out like a book, with each map page on the right and its corresponding text page facing it on the left. Your pages can then be stapled, or laminated and spiral bound for a more durable guide. You might also consider printing on waterproof paper.

Printing on Letter Paper

Yampa River Guides can also be printed successfully on letter-size paper—the maps and print will just appear smaller. When printing on letter-size paper, be sure to select the “Fit” or “Fit to Page” option in the print wizard.
